The Monument View Montessori Charter School Board of Directors will be comprised of from five to seven members, and will always include a majority of parents. The Board will be elected by the parents/guardians of the students attending Monument View Montessori Charter School, and will operate according to the by-laws laid out by the schools operating committee.
My name is Shelby and I am the Board of Directors President. I am a stay-at-home mom of 3 boys, two of which will be attending Monument View. I grew up in Fruita and graduated high school here. I attended the Art Institute of Colorado for Photography and followed up with a degree in Business Administration. I have been a farm girl all my life and am not afraid of a little hard work. I am truly humbled to be a part of helping this school open and giving our children a much needed option.
My background is in finance and economics. As a Wealth Management Advisor for Merrill Lynch, Peirce, Fenner, and Smith Inc., I coordinate the financial affairs of a select group of families, retirees and business owners to help them achieve their financial goals. I grew up on Colorado’s Western Slope, and attended Western State College of Colorado where I received a Bachelor of Arts, with majors in both Economics and History. I went on to receive a Master of Science in Personal Financial Planning from the College for Financial Planning. I hold the Chartered Retirement Planning CounselorSM designation from the College for Financial Planning, and the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM certification awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. As an active member in the community, I serve with the Knight of Columbus, and am a member the Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce. In the past I have served as a member of the Collbran Lions Club, the Plateau Valley Friends of the Library, and the Plateau Valley Association.
I was born, raised and educated in England: born in Solihull, (1962) , attended Liverpool University (BSc Geography and PGCE in Education) . I started my teaching career in a Junior, (Primary School) outside of London and taught for 2 years there. I met my husband, Les, in Helena, Montana. I was in USA as bridesmaid of my pen pal, (after writing to each other since the age of 11) and Les was the best man, (high school buddy of the groom!). We married 2 years later in England, (1988) and after waiting for INS approval I moved to USA and we settled in Grand Junction. I was a substitute teacher for District #51 for 2 years before getting a full time position at Nisley Elementary. I taught there for 27 years before retiring in May,2017. I received my Masters in Education degree in 1993. I love to keep active and can be found running in the early hours, working out at Crossroads Gym, hiking and gardening. I love to read, write and travel, (especially to visit my family back in England). My passion for teaching and education will be life long and it is an honor to be part of Monument View.
